create fedora packages for ohai

Description

As discussed with jtimberman: build on the Debian work and author some proper Fedora packages for ohai with the goal of inclusion in the distro. This is the first step to possible inclusion in EPEL and RHEL proper.

This will require a good deal of work and Fedora standards compliance. More details to come.

The process takes a bit, waiting on cvs modules atm.

Should be able to push packages for the upcoming F-12 and assuming they test okay branch/push for older Fedora releases and EPEL.

Looks like these packages were orphaned about a year ago and therefore aren't available. If someone wanted to pick them up, this should be relatively straight-forward. I don't really have time to do package maintenance at this point but could certainly help with reviews, etc.

I'm still working on it. I've managed to get most of the Gem dependencies accepted & built in Fedora with the exception of yajl-ruby, because it bundles an old version of the YAJL C library and Fedora does not accept packages with bundled libraries.

Vit Ondruch and Josef Stribzny of the Fedora project have submitted a PR to Brian Mario to remove this bundling and use the system YAJL but it hasn't been accepted yet.

Btw, why do you guys want to name ohai or chef like rubygem-ohai or rubygem-chef ? That does not seem like a standard Fedora way to me. I understand these are ruby applications, but that's not the intention of the vendor is it?

I understand that they are in rubygems packaging system, but so is puppet for instance and others which are named by for instance puppet-<version.number>. I am just trying to understand this bit, thanks for your help.

We might be able to get an exception from Fedora to call the packages "chef" or "ohai" – but let's cross that bridge when we get to it. First off is to actually get the packaging done.

It should be easy to get an exception for both Chef and Ohai because they are basically canonically referred to by those names. Anyhow, let's not worry about that for now.

Are there public specs right now, beyond the old repos? I'd love to see this happen, and would probably be willing to comaintain the downstream if you're interested.
